The storming of the Bastille happened on July 14,1789 in Paris, France. There are two main reasons for the storming of the Bastille prison, first because the prison had ammunition, gunpowder and abundant weapons. Second because there were flying rumors of attacks from the government. The prison also contained many prisoners that were part in the 3rd estate. The peasants/people wanted to free their fellow men who were imprisoned. The rumors were said to be that the government would attack the people. The storming of the Bastille was the beginning of the Radical phase, basically this is when the people started to become violent and started to go against the government. The Bastille was governed by Marquis de Launay, he was expecting a mob that would attack the prison so he had the Bastille stealthily and furiously repaired and reinforced. At around noon, a crowd filled with angry citizens and a group of French guards attacked the fortress. There were about over 300 citizens who were willing to risk their lives to end their over taxing and over bearing government. Many citizens were killed by the armed guards of the Bastille. However there were seven freed prisoners at the end. The storming of the Bastille was a huge turning point in the French Revolution. It brought down a symbol of the king’s tyranny and boosted the revolutionist’s confidence. It was the first thing to happen that actually scared King Louis XVI. It was the end of the Bastille Prison, but it the same time, it was a beginning. The significance of this event to the french revolution is that it boosted the confidence and of the peasants and slaves to fight for their liberty. it also influenced others to fight for their equality and their fraternity. The storming of the Bastille also instilled great fear to the other people in the society because first of all the prisoners were freed and could cause harm/ chaos in the society. Another reason why this event instilled great fear was because many servants and slaves started to rebel and revolt against their owners.
